Sunset Health Announces New CEO Transition

 

YUMA, AZ February 29th, 2024 –Sunset Health (Sunset) is pleased to announce Mr. Jonathan Leonard, MPA as the next Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He will succeed Mr. David Rogers, CEO who is retiring in 2024 after serving 20-years at Sunset. Mr. Leonard begins his role as CEO on April 1, 2024. Mr. Leonard has an extensive background working in community health centers. He received his Bachelor of Science in Health Information Administration from Louisiana Tech University and his Master of Public Administration in Health Care Administration from Grambling State University in Louisiana.
He served as Revenue Cycle Manager at a health center in Shreveport, Louisiana for a year before coming to Arizona to serve as the Chief Operating Officer in 2014 – 2015 at Desert Senita Community Health Center in Ajo, then was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer. He served as CEO in Ajo for eight years where
he earned the respect and recognition of his peers throughout the health center network in Arizona and across the country.
Mr. Leonard is a member of the National Association of Community Health Centers and has served in several board officer positions at Arizona Alliance for Community Health Centers, Collaborative Ventures Network, and VB Care Network. He is a visionary and strategic leader, has tremendous knowledge and expertise in health center operations at Federally Qualified Health Center organizations. He possesses a deep understanding of healthcare rules and regulations governing primary care services provided at health centers.
His extensive knowledge and experience working with Arizona Health Centers, AZ AHCCCS, ADHS, AZ Rural Health Network, and many other organizations/agencies earned him respect and recognition for his detail-oriented leadership style with a focus on provision of quality healthcare services.

Arizona American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Announces
Saika Somjee, MD FAAP as AZ AAP Suicide Prevention Ambassador

 

The Arizona American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) chapter is excited to announce Saika Somjee, MD FAAP as the chapter’s new AAP Suicide Prevention Ambassador. Suicide Prevention Ambassadors are trained in strategies from the Blueprint for Youth Suicide Prevention and engage with community leaders to provide subject matter expertise and support AAP chapter activities related to youth suicide prevention. Dr Somjee is currently the Associate Medical Director at Sunset Health.
Working closely with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) chapter, Dr Somjee will lead community suicide prevention efforts on behalf of the Arizona AAP chapter. Activities will center around the needs of local pediatricians, pediatric health clinicians, youth, and their families. Dr. Somjee will support the mission of the American Academy of Pediatrics is to attain optimal physical, mental, and social health and well-being for all infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.
 
 

Join us during our STEP sessions at the San Luis Library

 

Begining Wednesdeay March 6th from 5pm-6:30pm start learning about our program “STEPS to Understand Your Physical and Emotional Health” project aims to uncover influential factors in managing chronic diseases by analyzing the physical and emotional aspects as separate entities that collectively impact the process. Over the course of 7 STEPS sessions, patients will enhance their ability to identify existing resources and areas for improvement, ultimately leading to better treatment outcomes.

Moreover, the project facilitates patient access to additional treatment resources by providing referrals within Sunset Health departments like Behavioral Health, Eligibility, IM, or Peds, as well as through community resources. The STEPS project addresses the needs of patients with chronic illnesses, offering a tool to aid in navigating their treatment journey effectively. The workshop comprises 7 biweekly sessions, each lasting around 2 hours.

How to get tested for current COVID-19 infection

Sunset Health is currently is offering daily testing from 8:30am-9:00am in San Luis, Somerton, and Yuma. Please contact us for any questions or concerns at 928.819.8999.

Who should get tested for current infection

  • People who have symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Most people who have had close contact (within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period) with someone with confirmed COVID-19.
    • Fully vaccinated people with no COVID-19 symptoms do not need to be tested following an exposure to someone with COVID-19.
    • People who have tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 3 months and recovered do not need to get tested following an exposure as long as they do not develop new symptoms.
  • People who have taken part in activities that put them at higher risk for COVID-19 because they cannot physically distance as needed to avoid exposure, such as travel, attending large social or mass gatherings, or being in crowded or poorly-ventilated indoor settings.

CDC recommends that anyone with any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 get tested, regardless of vaccination status or prior infection. If you get tested because you have symptoms or were potentially exposed to the virus, you should stay away from others pending test results and follow the advice of your health care provider or a public health professional.
