Our Origin<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The organization began to receive funding through a Public Health Service grant to the Yuma County Migrant Health Program in 1972, when it provided services out of a trailer stationed near migrant work camps. It began operating under the name of Valley Health Center in 1976, and formally became Sunset Community Health Center in 1997.<\/p>\n

Today, Sunset Health employs more than 300 professionals, 35 of whom are providers, who collectively serve the needs of nearly 30,000 patients across 17 clinics and entry points. Sunset Health remains a vital part of the healthcare safety net, and continues to expand in order to strengthen its position as the Place for Optimal Health.<\/p>\n

Governance<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Sunset Health is a migrant and Federally Qualified Community Health Center (FQHC) that receives funding under Sections 329 and 330 of the Public Health Service Act. The organization is a 501(c)(3) non-profit governed by a 12-member, all-volunteer Board of Directors.<\/p>\n
